{"id":316,"date":"2009-04-19T20:53:43","date_gmt":"2009-04-20T00:53:43","guid":{"rendered":"http:\/\/www.thomaskrohn.com\/family\/wordpress\/?p=316"},"modified":"2009-04-19T21:09:04","modified_gmt":"2009-04-20T01:09:04","slug":"spring-break-in-tennessee","status":"publish","type":"post","link":"http:\/\/www.thomaskrohn.com\/family\/wordpress\/2009\/04\/19\/spring-break-in-tennessee\/","title":{"rendered":"Spring Break in Tennessee"},"content":{"rendered":"<p><a href=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/gallery\/7941555_MjVwC#515428418_Zuo3M\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: left;\" src=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/photos\/515428418_Zuo3M-S-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"250\" height=\"166\" \/><\/a>Last week our family took a much needed spring break and went to central Tennessee for some down time.\u00a0 The weather was mixed, from warm and sunny, to a snow storm to tornadoes in the area.\u00a0 We planned around the weather each day spending the nice days outside in the woods, and the ugly days at the indoor pool, movie theater or a day trip to Gatlinburg.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/gallery\/7941555_MjVwC#515395253_uAfnG\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/photos\/515395253_uAfnG-S-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a>On a rainy Tuesday we took off to visit the <a href=\"http:\/\/www.ripleysaquariumofthesmokies.com\/\" target=\"_blank\">Ripley&#8217;s Aquarium of the Smokies<\/a> on the edge of the national park.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/gallery\/7941555_MjVwC#515404110_ngUBd\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: left;\" src=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/photos\/515404110_ngUBd-S-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a>The aquarium is home to hundreds of species of salt and fresh water animals. We all loved the glass tunnel under the main pool with sharks, stingrays and eels.<\/p>\n<p><a href=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/gallery\/7941555_MjVwC#515403693_SagkM\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/photos\/515403693_SagkM-S-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a>The smaller side exhibits were as impressives, especially the &#8220;jellies&#8221; and exotic fish like the lion fish, piranas and puffer fish.\u00a0 We all learned lots about the unique characteristics of each.\u00a0 Did you know an eel has two sets of teeth?\u00a0 One to initially grab you, and another set that pull you down into its stomach!<\/p>\n<p>Another highlight of the trip was the perfect spring day at <a href=\"http:\/\/www.tennessee.gov\/environment\/parks\/FallCreekFalls\/index.shtml\" target=\"_blank\">Fall Creek State Park<\/a> in south central Tennessee.\u00a0 From the park website, Fall Creek State Park is &#8220;laced with cascades, gorges, waterfalls, streams,                and lush stands of virgin hardwood timber, the park beckons those                who enjoy nature at her finest.\u00a0 Fall Creek Falls, at 256                feet, is the highest waterfall in the eastern United States.&#8221;\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/gallery\/7941555_MjVwC#515427225_Gp5HS\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: left;\" src=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/photos\/515427225_Gp5HS-S-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>We took the better part of the day on easy strolls through the woods and gorges of the park.\u00a0 The gorges, cut by the rivers and streams, are quite impressive as the Cumberland Plateau falls sharply to the lowlands.<\/p>\n<p>To each of us, the quiet time in a nice 2 bedroom apartment provided lots of hightlights as well.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/gallery\/7941555_MjVwC#P-6-15\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: right;\" src=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/photos\/515414586_QD9E7-S-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"100\" height=\"150\" \/><\/a>The five of us often gathered around the kitchen table for extended sessions of Uno.\u00a0 Dad got to relax with some non-work reading and catch a few extra hours of sleep.\u00a0 The kids liked the large jacuzzi bathtub which made for a wild bubble bath in swimsuits.\u00a0 The full moon blessed us on a warm evening and we took advantage with a late flashlight walk on the golf course cart paths looking for owls.\u00a0 <a href=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/gallery\/7941555_MjVwC#515408723_u5evg\" target=\"_blank\"><img loading=\"lazy\" decoding=\"async\" style=\"float: left;\" src=\"http:\/\/takmad.smugmug.com\/photos\/515408723_u5evg-S-1.jpg\" alt=\"\" width=\"150\" height=\"100\" \/><\/a>Matthew was our chief owl caller, saying &#8220;Who!\u00a0 Who!&#8221;
