Turkey Run and Indiana Covered Bridges

Apr 8th, 2008 by Tom

For a change of pace over the Spring Break, we headed to Turkey Run State Park and stayed a couple of days in the park Inn.  We were blessed with perfect spring weather of sunny skies and temperatures near 70.  Turkey Run has great hiking trails, many of which pass through the “runs” or water-cut canyons in the limestone.  We enjoyed being close to nature as well as quiet hours in the Inn where we played games, did puzzles and enjoyed the indoor swimming pool.

On the way home we drove through Indiana’s Parke County, the Covered Bridge Capital of the World and home of 30 covered bridges.  They are impressive structures, most dating from the early 1900’s.  We even saw a radier, something we haven’t seen since Madagascar where they are common place in the south.

The best part was all of this was within 90 minutes of our home.  A great time was had by all!  Lots of pictures can be seen on our SmugMug site.
