A week ago Emily performed at her first piano recital.  She did a great job and is excited to move on to more challenging songs.  She is a natural and is making up songs as much as she is learning existing ones.  We even got her a used guitar and she is picking it up as well.  Good thing too, since her dad can’t play an instrument!  A full video of the recital is available here.

Cousin Visit

Shane and Mia, our cousins from Pittsburgh, came for a short visit this week.  They and Uncle Kelly came for pizza dinner and lots of fun in the basement.  I think we’ll see more of them in the summer an we’re looking forward to it.

Father Daughter Dance

It was a big day in the Krohn house with the first annual (for us) Father Daughter Dance.  Emily got all dressed up for her date, complete with mom’s help on curling her hair for the big night out.  Emily and I “double-dated” with her best friend, next door neighbor Sarah Kate and her dad. The girls were in their glory with their matching dresses that Melissa had prearranged.

We had a special dinner at a nearby Italian restaurant, then headed over to the dance.  It was packed with 100+ father/daughter pairs.  What a treat to see that many fathers dedicate an evening to their young girl(s) between the ages of 5 – 10.

It was a fun evening with a DJ who kept the music flowing for almost 2 hours.  It was a mix of classics for the dads and current pop hits for the girls.  Imagine YMCA and You Make Me Want to Shout mixed between the latest from Miley Cyrus and the Jonas Brothers.  The dads taught the girls some moves (“Y-M-C-A”) and the girls taught the dad’s some moves (Macarena).  A night to remember and cherish.

Emily, our budding author

Emily continues to impress us with her writing.   Her 4th grade class is ready a civil war book entitled “Captured, A Boy Trapped in the Civil War” by Mary Blair Immel.  For an assignment she had to chose a photo in the book and write a one page journal entry as if she were the main character in the book.  The picture on the left is the photo.  Here is the text of her journal entry.

Dear Journal,

As I sit here I imagine the future war.  Roche beside me is pondering about his family back home and how they are doing.  I too hope Sissy and Tag and Ma are doing fine.  I bet Ma is making them split my chores.  Tag now probably is un-Tag.

The air is of fear on disturbence about each others lives.  As we all watch the campsite, I take note that the air is chilly as if the wind itself could smell fear.  The leaves danced dead on the campground, though no joy was shed upon the sight.  I feal a resemblance and relationship between Roche ‘n I, with both of our fathers having being passed away.  For I have read books about friends saving each other’s lives.  This “Relationship” may come in hand.  Sadly, I believe that Williams isn’t so much feeling good at all.

So long Journal,

Johnny Able

A snow day today.  School cancelled.  Roads blocked and 12 inches of snow on the ground.  Even dad got to stay at home and work from his office.  The kids were dressed and ready to go outside – even before they had breakfast.  Ahhh, if it were only that easy on school days.

Our cul-de-sac transformed from a gray circle to a white playground with all the kids out this morning and afternoon.  All bundled up, they enjoyed some sledding in the back yards, being pulled by Mr. Chapman on his ATV and making a fort in the pile made by the snow plow.  Even dad took a break and found himself in a North Dakota flashback as he borrowed a neighbor’s snowblower and cleared out a number of driveways.

Benny enjoyed his first big snow too, pretending to hunt through our woods.

Lots more pics are available on our SmugMug site.

A short video is also available on our video section.

Joshua Kindergarten 2009It is that time of the year again when the school pictures come out.  Here is Joshua’s kindergarten picture.  We will upload Emily’s and Matthew’s when we get them.  Joshua is quickly growing up to be a young boy that makes us proud in so many ways.  EmilyAnd with hair like that, how can one not want to give him a big hug!  You can see a larger version of this picture and his whole class picture on our SmugMug site.

Sledding January 2009

The weather has changed since our warm front and this past week real winter came.  Nighttime lows of -15 degrees farenheit (-26 C) and strong wind.  Schools pretty much shut down yesterday, we got a good bit of snow, so today the family bundled up and headed to our church grounds for some sledding.  Not the best of conditions, but great fun was had by everyone.  You can see more photos on our SmugMug site and a short video here.

Summer in December?

Read for rideAh, the weather of Indiana.   A week ago it was -10 degrees and felt like North Dakota.  Yesterday a warm front came through and the high was 66.  Matthew swingingWe took advantage of the nice weather and went for a family walk down to our neighborhood playground.  Matthew kept asking, “Is it summer now?”  Some pictures of our walk are available on our SmugMug site.

joshmatthewOn Christmas Day I took some video of the kids and their excitement building to a fun day of celebration. From stockings to karaoke to drums and hot wheels, catch some of the fun at our house this Christmas by watching this Christmas 2008 video.

Gingerbread House

We had a fun afternoon decorating a gingerbread house. All three kids took their hand at creating the “perfect” house, and sneaking a few candies here and there. More pics are available on our SmugMug site.
