For a change of pace over the Spring Break, we headed to Turkey Run State Park and stayed a couple of days in the park Inn. We were blessed with perfect spring weather of sunny skies and temperatures near 70.
Turkey Run has great hiking trails, many of which pass through the “runs” or water-cut canyons in the limestone. We enjoyed being close to nature as well as quiet hours in the Inn where we played games, did puzzles and enjoyed the indoor swimming pool.
On the way home we drove through Indiana’s Parke County, the Covered Bridge Capital of the World and home of 30 covered bridges. They are impressive structures, most dating from the early 1900’s. We even saw a radier, something we haven’t seen since Madagascar where they are common place in the south.
The best part was all of this was within 90 minutes of our home. A great time was had by all! Lots of pictures can be seen on our SmugMug site.

It is a proud time in the Krohn house. Emily is a top 100 finalist of the Indiana Symphony in Color competition. The competition involves 29,000 Indiana students from 1-6 grade in an art competition where the students create an art drawing of what they heard in Beethoven’s Allegro Moderato from Piano Concerto No. 4, Opus 58.
Emily made the local Indy paper twice, first when it was announced she was a finalist, then second after her interview. A select group of of students, including Emily, were interviewed by the Indiana State Museam Curator with the video available on the IndyStar.com multimedia page. I’ve uploaded the video to YouTube and you can see the full series of interviews here, or Emily’s interview below. Our SmugMug photo site has additional photos and scans of the newspaper articles.
Please join us in congratulating Emily!

Tonight our friends the Mizells came over. It was a night of pizza, dark clothes, nerf guns and the soundtrack to Mission Impossible.
Everyone had a great time with the teams being the Daddies vs. everyone else. Chris brought his super duper automatic gun and Tom had home field advantage, especially in the basement where he knew how the lights were wired. We closed the night with peppermint ice cream and chocolate sauce. Good friends. Good fun.

We had a special Thanksgiving time in Midland, Michigan, home of Tom’s sister Nancy. David & Nancy hosted Grandma & Grandpa Krohn, Uncle Kelly and our family. There was lots of food – of course – but more importantly special time with family.
Our kids especially enjoyed reconnecting with their grandparents and cousins. Joshua and Matthew’s “high” of the trip was playing War with Grandma.Adam Young provided lots of entertainment value for the kids, serving as a mannequin as well as wrestler of choice. Check out the photos on our SmugMug site.On Saturday, the 4 “Krohn” men (Grandpa, Kelly, Tom and Adam) gathered in
Indianapolis for a Canyon Riders Reunion at the Nature Valley Ranch where Kelly boards his horse Justin. We had a nice ride through the woods and nearby creek. Additional photos are available on our SmugMug site.

We love the fall leaves at our house.
The backyard fills with color from our maple trees, bringing the bright colors of fall into the neighborhood and house. On a warm fall day, we love to rake the leaves into big piles and what what excitement comes our way. A few more photos are available on our SmugMug site. A couple video clips of leaf fun:

There are days in a family’s life that one remembers. Today was one. After sharing rooms for a few weeks, we got the boys bunk beds.
It took Dad a couple of hours to clear out the room and setup the new bunks all while getting lots of “help” from two very excited little boys. Joshua will have the top bunk, and Matthew the lower bunk. A few more photos are available on our SmugMug site.
Here is Joshua climbing up to the top bunk for the first time:

Fall colors are in full swing in Indiana. This past week Mommy and Matthew went on a hayride at our church.
The highlight was stopping off at the pumpkin patch and Matthew selecting his very own pumpkin. A full set of photos are available on our SmugMug site.

Yesterday we spent took a little drive to the west side of town with Uncle Kelly to meet Justin, his new horse. The kids were extra excited as Justin was not just a horse, he was “Uncle Kelly’s horse!”
Each one got to have a ride on Justin, even Matthew. When Matthew was asked if he wanted his Daddy to ride with him, he said “No way”.
We are looking forward to seeing Justin more in the days and years ahead. A full set of photos are available our SmugMug site.

Matthew loves to sing along with some of the praise music we play in the car and at home. Here he is with his favorite song, “One Way, Jesus”

Beautiful fall weather is upon us in Indiana and we enjoyed a great day today.
Emily led us in putting together a picnic basket and we headed in the car to the nearby elementary school. We backed up to the playground and then tailgated with sandwiches, chips and apples. More photos available here.
Here is a video of Joshua playing on the playground equipment.
